Richmond, Virginia
The Mid-Atlantic's longest-running LGBTQ+ professional theater company
Richmond Triangle Players is a professional nonprofit theatre company built around LGBTQ+ stories, founded in the early 1990s and now one of the most significant queer theaters in the country; Playbill named it one of the 15 most important theaters of its kind in the nation in 2016. It performs out of the 90-seat Robert B. Moss Theatre, which it opened in 2010 in Scott's Addition, and it stands as the only professional LGBTQ+ theatre company in Central Virginia and the longest continually operating one in the Mid-Atlantic. The repertoire spans new work and queer-lens takes on classics, and the company runs the biennial So.Queer Playwriting Festival to develop new LGBTQ+ plays from the ground up. For a traveler, it's a different register from the bars a few miles east: an evening here is the substantive, culture-forward side of queer Richmond, set in one of the city's most walkable brewery-and-restaurant neighborhoods.
