Richmond, Virginia
Richmond's drag brunch institution and late-night venue since 1997
Godfrey's has been a Richmond institution since 1997, when it opened as a downtown restaurant on East Grace Street before evolving into the city's best-known LGBTQ+ nightclub. Its claim to fame is the drag brunch: Godfrey's was running one as far back as 1999, years before drag brunch became a national fixture, and it remains the main event here. Weekend seatings on Saturday and Sunday book up through Resy, and the venue celebrated 25 years in the community in 2022. Beyond brunch, Godfrey's runs as a full nightclub with DJs and drag shows later in the week, and it regularly hosts the Virginia Pride Pageant. It draws a wide crowd: bachelorette tables next to longtime regulars next to first-timers who heard the brunch is worth it, and it is. For a visitor with one night in Richmond, this is the safest bet for a memorable queer night out, a few doors down from Barcode on the same downtown block.
