Part of the Gay Madrid Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Madrid, Spain
Late-night Chueca dance floor with pop, reggaeton, and cruisy energy.
Rick's is one of Madrid's most iconic gay bars, open since 1985 with roots in the city's Movida era. Named and themed after the film Casablanca, its walls are lined with Humphrey Bogart memorabilia for a vintage, faintly Moroccan look that sets it apart from the slicker rooms nearby. It sits on Calle del Clavel, at the edge of Chueca near Gran Via, and runs as a late-night bar where the music leans on 80s and 90s classics alongside current hits. This is a copas-and-pre-club institution rather than a big production: there's a pool table and foosball, the cocktails and DJ sets are the draw, and the crowd spans ages and types more than most of Chueca's youth-skewing clubs. It stays open into the early morning and packs out late, which makes it a reliable last stop on a Chueca night or a place to settle in once the bigger clubs start to blur together.
