Madrid, Spain
Studio 54 attempts to capture the glamorous spirit of its legendary Manhattan namesake with shimmering interiors designed by Tomas Alia. Crystal chandeliers hang above the dance floor, creating an upmarket atmosphere that sets it apart from some of Chueca's scruffier venues. The club draws a predominantly gay crowd with a significant contingent of female friends, aiming for a more sophisticated vibe than many neighborhood spots. House and techno dominate the soundtrack, with DJs who know how to read the room and occasionally throw in retro twists to keep things interesting. Unlike clubs that rely on go-go dancers to energize the crowd, Studio 54 lets the punters set their own pace on the dance floor. The club's mixed crowd tends toward the more fashion-conscious end of the spectrum—this isn't the place for bears in jockstraps or leather daddies, but rather for gay men and their friends who want to dress up and dance without too much attitude. The space is well-designed with modern touches that nod to disco-era glamour without feeling like a costume party. Open Wednesday and Thursday until 3am, and Friday and Saturday until 4am, with things really picking up after midnight. Some nights see special themed events, so checking their social media beforehand is worthwhile. While it may not quite replicate the anything-goes energy of the original Studio 54, this Madrid version offers a stylish alternative for when you want something a bit more polished than the typical Chueca bar crawl.
