No-frills tapas bar for good food and house wine without the scene
Taberna La Rita — signed as Que Trabaje Rita — is a lively cocktail bar and gastrobar on Calle del Almendro in La Latina, the neighborhood that, alongside Chueca, anchors Madrid's queer-friendly social life. The hook is the drinks list: a long roster of cocktails (90-plus references) including celebrity-inspired "Star Cocktails," poured alongside a casual kitchen that runs from huevos rotos, tortilla, calamari and samosas to the house burgers. The small terrace is a real draw — prime turf for people-watching on this corner of the city. It reads as a relaxed, gay-friendly local rather than a scene bar, and that's the point: somewhere to start or close out a La Latina crawl, not to dance. Occasional drag nights add a bit of color, but most of the time it's about good plates, a well-made drink, and the front-window people-watching that comes free with the table.
