Toronto, Ontario
Toronto's 2SLGBTQ+ community centre, on Church since 1975.
Located in the heart of Toronto's Church and Wellesley Village, The 519 is Canada's most prominent 2SLGBTQ+ community center. Established in 1975 as the city's first community-controlled center, it occupies a historic building with a modern glass addition overlooking Barbara Hall Park. It serves as both a neighborhood facility for local residents and a global model for queer advocacy and service. The center provides a massive range of essential services, including newcomer and refugee settlement support, legal clinics, and specialized programming for trans youth and seniors. Every June, it hosts the Green Space Festival, a multi-day outdoor circuit party in the adjacent park that serves as its primary annual fundraiser. The facility is fully accessible, featuring all-gender washrooms and the FABARNAK community cafe on the ground floor.
