London, London
Classic Soho bear bar with a pub licence dating to 1706
The Kings Arms — "The KA" to regulars — bills itself as Soho's oldest gay bar, in a building whose pub licence dates to 1706 and which has run as an openly gay venue since the early 1980s. Self-styled as London's favourite bear bar, it draws a loyal crowd of bears and their admirers to a traditional, real-ale pub on Poland Street, just off the Soho grid. It's Cask Marque approved, with Fuller's London Pride and Sharp's Doom Bar on the handpumps. Programming runs all week and leans into the bar's identity: Bearaoke on Sundays (which the pub says has run for more than 25 years), a Tuesday quiz, drag nights, and resident and guest DJs on Friday and Saturday. There's an upstairs space available for private hire. It's small and gets crowded fast, which is exactly the appeal — a proper old pub that happens to be the warm heart of bear Soho.
