Lakeland's gay bar since at least 1969, with weekend drag
The Parrot is a gay bar on East Main Street in Lakeland, Florida, and LkldNow traces it as a home for the city's LGBTQ+ community to at least 1969. It was The Green Parrot for decades and then Pulse, until the current owners went back to the original name in 2020; owner Richard "Dick" Dunn says at least twenty major drag acts got their start there. Drag is the main event on Fridays and Saturdays, and there's no stage: the queens work the room and interact with the crowd. Thursdays are karaoke, with stand-up comedy on the calendar too. The bar is 21+ and open Tuesday through Sunday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
