Part of the Gay Anchorage Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Anchorage, Alaska
The northernmost gay bar in the US, open since 1982
Open since 1982, The Raven bills itself as the northernmost gay bar in the United States, and the claim is hard to argue with. It's one of just two gay bars in Anchorage, the other being Mad Myrna's about a block away on 5th, and between them they more or less make up Alaska's entire gay nightlife scene. Where Mad Myrna's is the show lounge with DJs and drag, The Raven is the dive: a pool table, jukebox, darts, pinball, and a large outdoor patio that earns its keep during Alaska's long summer daylight. The crowd skews toward older regulars who know each other, and there's no cover, no stage, and no pretense, just a neighborhood bar that has kept the lights on for more than forty years. For a visitor it's the lower-key half of an easy two-stop Anchorage night.
