Tony's Corner Pocket is a no-frills gay dive near downtown Houston, the kind of low-key spot where the bartenders learn your name by the second visit. Pool tables, strong and cheap pours, and an easygoing mixed crowd set the baseline; the outdoor patio, with its view of the downtown skyline, does a lot of the work on a warm night. What it's known for is the stage. Tony's runs drag shows and its long-running amateur male strip contests on Wednesday and Sunday nights — more playful and unpretentious than a polished revue. Come for the show or just for a casual beer; either way it reads as a neighborhood bar first, which is exactly why regulars keep it close.
