Part of the Gay Calgary Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Calgary, Alberta
Calgary's only gay nightclub, on 11 Ave SW in the Beltline since 2004
Calgary’s only remaining gay nightclub. The city once had a dozen; today Twisted Element is the last one standing, open since November 2004 in the Beltline district. The two-floor space holds 350 and is open Wednesday through the weekend, late into the night, with drag-anchored nights like Fridays With Benefits and Spectacular Saturdays. The venue has featured performers from Canada’s Drag Race alongside local acts, and regularly hosts community organization events at no charge. During the pandemic shutdown, GM Keon Brawn pivoted the space into a drag dinner theater with three-course meals — a move that kept it alive when other venues didn’t make it back. Pool tables and a fireplace round out the space between sets.
