The Castro Street Fair is San Francisco's original neighborhood street party, organized in 1974 by Harvey Milk and the Castro Village Association to draw people and business into the Castro. Held every year on the first Sunday of October, it takes over Castro Street and the Castro/Market intersection with multiple stages of DJs, live music and drag, hundreds of arts, food and community-nonprofit booths, and beer and wine gardens. In 2026 it runs Sunday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entry is free with a suggested gate donation (about $5–$10) that funds the local nonprofits who produce and staff the fair. It's an all-ages daytime celebration — a more mainstream, community-focused counterpart to Folsom Street Fair the weekend before — with 21+ beverage gardens. The nearest transit is the Castro Muni Metro station, directly beneath the fair.
