If June is Pride Month, July is its afterparty — and honestly, some of the best travel of the whole summer. The mega-city parades are behind us, the crowds thin out just enough, and the calendar shifts to what a lot of us actually love most: beach weekends, Bear Week, leather street fairs, circuit parties on the sand, and the late-summer Prides that don't get the national spotlight but absolutely deserve your flights.

This is your month-by-month, weekend-by-weekend guide to the best gay events in July across North America — with a few unmissable stops in Europe for anyone with a passport and a long weekend. We've organized everything chronologically so you can plan real travel around it, and flagged where to stay, when to book, and the one thing you shouldn't miss at each.

Just getting into the summer? Start with our roundup of the best gay events in June for everything Pride Month, then pick up here.

TLDR: The July Highlights at a Glance

  • Independence weekend (Jul 3–5) is a beach-town blowout — Fire Island's Invasion of the Pines, Provincetown, and Rehoboth all peak on the 4th.
  • Early July is Europe's moment — London Pride, Madrid Pride, and Cologne CSD all land on the same first weekend.
  • Provincetown Bear Week (Jul 11–18) is the world's largest gathering of the bear community — book lodging months out.
  • San Diego Pride (Jul 11–19) is the marquee U.S. Pride of the month and one of the largest in the country.
  • Portland Pride (Jul 18–19) gives the Pacific Northwest its moment the same weekend.
  • SF's Dore Alley / Up Your Alley (Jul 26) is the leather-and-kink street fair that closes out the month.
  • Late July rolls into Canada — Vancouver Pride and Montreal's Fierté kick off — plus Fire Island's Pines Party (Jul 31–Aug 2), the biggest beach dance party in America.

Pro Tip

July hotel inventory in beach and Pride towns disappears earlier than June's. If you already know you want Provincetown Bear Week, San Diego Pride, or a Fire Island share, book lodging now — the good rooms are often gone 60–90 days out.

How to Choose Your July

Not every July trip is the same trip. Pick your lane:

  • The beach lover — Provincetown, Fire Island, and Rehoboth are all in full swing. Independence weekend is peak, but any July weekend delivers.
  • The bear — Provincetown Bear Week (Jul 11–18) is the one. No contest.
  • The leather & kink crowd — San Francisco's Dore Alley (Jul 26) is your Folsom warm-up, months before the main event.
  • The circuit boy — Fire Island's Pines Party (Jul 31–Aug 2) closes the month with a sunrise beach set you'll talk about for years.
  • The Pride purist who missed June — San Diego and Portland both go big on Jul 18–19.
  • The passport holder — early July is Europe's Pride high season. London, Madrid, and Cologne all peak the first weekend.

Independence Weekend on the Beach (Jul 3–5)

The Fourth of July falls on a Saturday, turning the whole weekend into one long open-air block party across America's gay beach towns. If you want summer at its most iconic, this is the weekend.

The Invasion of the Pines is the crown jewel — a Fire Island tradition since 1976, when drag queens from Cherry Grove board the ferry and "invade" the Pines harbor in full drag. It's free, it's chaotic, and thousands pack the harbor dock to watch the queens disembark around midday on the 4th. Meanwhile, Provincetown throws tea dances all weekend and one of New England's best small-town fireworks shows, and Rehoboth Beach brings big energy to Poodle Beach with a fireworks display that rivals cities ten times its size.

  • Where: Fire Island Pines, NY · Provincetown, MA · Rehoboth Beach, DE
  • When: July 3–5, with everything peaking Saturday the 4th
  • Stay: In the Pines, book a house share early or grab a room at The Pavilion; in Provincetown, the West End guesthouses put you steps from Commercial Street; in Rehoboth, stay near Baltimore Avenue for the walk to Poodle Beach.
  • Don't miss: The Invasion itself — get to the Pines harbor by late morning to claim a spot on the dock.
  • Book by: Now. Independence weekend is the single busiest beach weekend of the summer and sells out first.
  • Full guides: Best Gay Fourth of July Celebrations · Gay Fire Island Guide · Invasion of the Pines

Pro Tip

Fire Island has no cars. Plan your ferry from Sayville (for the Pines and Cherry Grove) around the Invasion timing, and pack light — you'll be walking or wagon-hauling everything from the dock.

Pride Abroad: Europe's Early-July Weekend

If you've got a passport and a few days, the first weekend of July is the single best time to catch a European Pride — three of the continent's biggest all land at once.

Pride in London takes over central London on Saturday, July 4, with the parade stepping off at noon and hundreds of thousands lining the route through the heart of the city. It's one of the largest Prides in Europe and famously, defiantly British. Official info: prideinlondon.org.

Madrid Pride (MADO) is the giant of the Mediterranean — a week-plus of programming in the Chueca district peaking the first weekend of July, with a street party so dense the whole neighborhood becomes one open-air club. Official info: mado.es.

Cologne Pride (ColognePride / CSD) runs July 3–5, with Germany's biggest CSD parade rolling through the city on Sunday the 5th and a free festival on Heumarkt drawing over a million people across the weekend. Official info: colognepride.de.

  • Stay: In London, Soho keeps you in the heart of the gay village; in Madrid, base yourself in Chueca; in Cologne, the Rudolfplatz / "Bermuda Triangle" district is the nightlife core.
  • Don't miss: All three fall on the same weekend — an ambitious traveler can do Madrid Friday, London Saturday, Cologne Sunday if the flights line up.
  • Book by: Early. European hotel rates in Pride cities spike hard the first weekend of July.

Provincetown Bear Week (Jul 11–18)

Provincetown Bear Week is the largest gathering of the bear community in the world, and for one week the tip of Cape Cod belongs entirely to bears, cubs, otters, and the men who love them. Expect pool parties, beach parties, the legendary sunset cruises, theme nights up and down Commercial Street, a bear market, and a warmth — social and literal — that keeps people coming back year after year.

  • Where: Provincetown, MA
  • When: July 11–18
  • Stay: Book a West End guesthouse or a Commercial Street inn — Provincetown is small and walkable, so anywhere central works, but Bear Week lodging goes fast.
  • Don't miss: A Bear Week sunset cruise on the harbor — it's the signature experience and tickets move quickly.
  • Book by: Months ahead. This is one of the hardest-to-book weeks of the entire Provincetown season.
  • Official site: ptownbears.events · Browse what's on: Provincetown events on Out x Out

Pro Tip

Provincetown lodging often requires multi-night minimums during Bear Week and won't discount for a partial stay. If you can only do a few days, look at nearby Truro or a shared house to keep costs down, then bike or shuttle into town.

San Diego Pride (Jul 11–19)

San Diego Pride is the marquee U.S. Pride of July and one of the largest in the country, drawing more than 250,000 people to the Hillcrest neighborhood. The 2026 theme is "Pride Shines On." The week builds through the Dyke March on July 11 and culminates in the massive parade and two-day festival on the third weekend.

  • Where: Hillcrest & Balboa Park, San Diego, CA
  • When: July 11–19, with the parade Saturday, July 18 (10 AM, starting at Normal St & University Ave) and the festival at Marston Point in Balboa Park, July 18–19
  • Stay: Hillcrest puts you in the middle of the gayborhood and walking distance to the parade; Downtown and Bankers Hill are easy alternatives with more hotel inventory.
  • Don't miss: The parade down University Avenue — it's the largest single-day civic event in the region — followed by the festival's multiple entertainment zones in Balboa Park.
  • Book by: 6–8 weeks out. Hillcrest hotels fill first.

Portland Pride (Jul 18–19)

The same weekend San Diego goes big, the Pacific Northwest gets its moment. Portland Pride centers on Tom McCall Waterfront Park with a two-day Waterfront Festival and a Sunday parade that winds from the North Park Blocks down to Naito Parkway. It's smaller and greener than the mega-Prides — very Portland — and all the better for it.

  • Where: Tom McCall Waterfront Park, Portland, OR
  • When: Festival July 18 (noon–8 PM) and July 19 (11:30 AM–6 PM); parade Sunday, July 19 at 11 AM
  • Stay: Downtown Portland puts you within walking distance of both the festival and the Stark Street bars; the Pearl District is a slightly quieter upscale option nearby.
  • Don't miss: The Sunday parade ending right at the waterfront festival gates — you can march and land in the party.
  • Book by: 4–6 weeks out.

Dore Alley / Up Your Alley (Jul 26)

San Francisco's Up Your Alley Fair — everyone just calls it Dore Alley — is the leather-and-kink street fair that takes over Folsom Street between 9th and 10th on the last Sunday of July. Think of it as the raunchier, more local warm-up to Folsom Street Fair in September: DJs, gogo dancers, kink performers, and 40-plus vendors selling leather, gear, and more. The fair is free (a cash donation is suggested at the gates, funding community grants), and a full run of pop-up parties, afters, and recovery nights bookend the weekend from Wednesday through Monday.

  • Where: SoMa (Folsom St between 9th & 10th + Dore Alley), San Francisco, CA
  • When: Sunday, July 26, 11 AM–6 PM
  • Stay: SoMa keeps you steps from the fair and the afterparties; the Castro is a short ride away if you want a quieter home base.
  • Don't miss: The circuit and play parties around the fair — for many, the weekend's parties are the main event and the fair is the excuse.
  • Book by: 3–4 weeks out; SoMa hotels tighten up the closer you get.

Vancouver Pride (Jul 25–Aug 2)

Canada's summer Pride season opens on the West Coast. Vancouver Pride runs the last week of July into early August, with a full slate of parties, the Davie Village street festivities, and a downtown parade on Sunday, August 2 that ends in a waterfront festival at Sunset Beach. It's one of the most scenic Prides anywhere — mountains, ocean, and a genuinely welcoming crowd.

  • Where: Davie Village & Downtown, Vancouver, BC
  • When: July 25–August 2, parade Sunday, August 2
  • Stay: The West End / Davie Village is the gayborhood and the center of everything; Yaletown is a stylish walkable alternative.
  • Don't miss: The parade down Robson and Denman streets ending at Sunset Beach — bring a swimsuit and stay for the festival.
  • Book by: 6 weeks out; downtown Vancouver rooms are pricey in peak summer.

Montreal Pride / Fierté Montréal (Jul 31–Aug 9)

Fierté Montréal is one of the largest Pride celebrations in the Francophone world, and it kicks off at the very end of July before running into August. Ten days of free outdoor concerts, drag, dance parties, and community programming build to the parade down René-Lévesque Boulevard on Sunday, August 9. The Village — Montreal's gayborhood along Sainte-Catherine Street — is the beating heart of it all.

  • Where: The Village (Sainte-Catherine St), Montreal, QC
  • When: July 31–August 9, parade Sunday, August 9 at 1 PM
  • Stay: The Village puts you in the middle of the free concerts and nightlife; Downtown and the Quartier des Spectacles are close alternatives.
  • Don't miss: The free outdoor mega-concerts at the Village stages — no ticket, just show up.
  • Book by: 6–8 weeks out for Village-adjacent lodging.
  • Full guide: Montreal Pride: Complete Fierté Montréal Guide

Fire Island Pines Party (Jul 31–Aug 2)

The month closes the way it should — on a beach, at 4 AM. The Pines Party is a weekend-long charity dance event in Fire Island Pines, and its Saturday-night headline party, Altar Ego, has been called the biggest, queerest all-night dance party on a beach in America. Picture a full circuit-party production — international DJs, towering light rigs, sunrise sets — staged directly on the sand with the ocean as the backdrop. The 2026 theme leans mythological: come as the myth you've always known yourself to be. Proceeds benefit the Pines Foundation, the Stonewall Community Foundation, and the Seashore Defense Fund.

  • Where: Fire Island Pines, NY
  • When: July 31–August 2; the Altar Ego beach party runs Saturday, August 1, 10 PM–6 AM
  • Stay: House shares in the Pines are the move; book a bed in a group house months ahead or stay in Cherry Grove and walk over.
  • Don't miss: Altar Ego on the beach — the sunrise set is the stuff of legend.
  • Book by: Immediately. Pines Party weekend is one of the hardest-to-book weekends on Fire Island.

Summer Travel Tips for July

  • Book beach and Pride lodging first. July inventory in Provincetown, Fire Island, San Diego, and Rehoboth vanishes earlier than June's. Lock rooms before flights if you have to choose.
  • Plan around ferries and no-car towns. Fire Island and parts of Provincetown are walk- or bike-only. Check ferry schedules from Sayville (Fire Island) and pack light.
  • Hydrate and sun-plan. July is the hottest stretch of the summer. Beach parties and outdoor festivals mean real sun exposure — sunscreen, water, and a shady break aren't optional.
  • Watch the multi-night minimums. Beach-town guesthouses routinely require 3–4 night stays during peak weekends and won't prorate. Factor it into the budget.
  • Consider the shoulder weekends. If crowds aren't your thing, the second and third weekends of July (outside Independence weekend and the big Prides) are quieter but still lively in every beach town.
  • Cross-reference live events before you go. Circuit parties, tea dances, and pop-ups get announced late. Check the Out x Out app for the city you're visiting so you don't miss a same-week party.

Pro Tip

Chaining trips? Provincetown Bear Week (Jul 11–18) flows right into San Diego and Portland Pride (Jul 18–19), and the whole month wraps with Dore Alley and Pines Party. A little planning turns July into a genuine gay-travel marathon.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the biggest gay events in July?

The largest are San Diego Pride (July 11–19, one of the biggest U.S. Prides), Provincetown Bear Week (July 11–18, the world's largest bear gathering), and Fire Island's Pines Party (July 31–August 2, America's biggest beach dance party). Early July also brings Europe's giants — London, Madrid, and Cologne Pride — all on the same first weekend.

Is July a good time for gay travel?

Absolutely. July is Pride's "second wave" — the mega-city June parades are over, but beach season is at its peak, Bear Week and circuit parties are in full swing, and late-summer Prides like San Diego and Portland go big. Crowds are often slightly more manageable than peak June, and the weather is prime.

When is San Diego Pride 2026?

San Diego Pride runs July 11–19, 2026, with the parade on Saturday, July 18 (10 AM, starting at Normal Street and University Avenue in Hillcrest) and the two-day festival at Marston Point in Balboa Park on July 18–19.

When is Provincetown Bear Week 2026?

Provincetown Bear Week 2026 runs July 11–18. It's the world's largest gathering of the bear community, with pool parties, beach parties, sunset cruises, and theme nights all week. Book lodging months in advance — it's one of the busiest weeks of the Provincetown season.

What is Dore Alley?

Dore Alley — officially the Up Your Alley Fair — is San Francisco's leather-and-kink street fair, held on the last Sunday of July (July 26, 2026) on Folsom Street between 9th and 10th. It's a free, more local, more adult warm-up to September's Folsom Street Fair, with DJs, kink performers, and gear vendors, plus a full weekend of pop-up parties.

What's the best gay beach event in July?

For sheer spectacle, Fire Island's Pines Party (July 31–August 2) is the standout — a sunrise beach dance party unlike anything else in the country. For an all-weekend beach-town vibe, Independence weekend (July 3–5) in Provincetown, Fire Island, and Rehoboth is peak summer.

Which European Prides happen in July?

The first weekend of July is Europe's Pride high season: Pride in London (July 4), Madrid Pride / MADO (peaking the first weekend), and Cologne CSD (July 3–5) all land together. With the right flights, an ambitious traveler can catch more than one in a single weekend.

How far in advance should I book July gay travel?

Earlier than you think. For Provincetown Bear Week, Fire Island Pines Party, and San Diego Pride, book lodging 2–3 months out — the best rooms and house shares are often gone 60–90 days ahead. Independence weekend beach lodging is the very first to sell out.

I'm Robbie, the founder of Out x Out. I'm from Minneapolis, though I'm spending 2026 building this community from the road — somewhere between South America and Asia. The idea for Out x Out came from a trip to Berlin, where the gay nightlife calendar was years ahead of ours: you could see not just where to go out, but which night to go — so naturally I wanted that kind of insider info for every city in the US (and beyond... eventually). I'm more of a behind-the-scenes type, but the whole point of this is connection: I'd take one real one over a hundred surface-level ones, and I'm trying to build that for the community, city by city.
