Neighborhoods·Dallas Gay Guide

What is the Gay Neighborhood in Dallas?

Dallas's primary LGBTQ+ neighborhood is Oak Lawn, centered along Cedar Springs Road on the city's north side. Known locally as "The Strip," this corridor between Oak Lawn Avenue and Wycliff Avenue is home to the densest concentration of gay bars, clubs, and LGBTQ+-owned businesses in Texas. In 2018, it became the first neighborhood in Texas to receive official state recognition as a gay district.

What to Find on Cedar Springs

Cedar Springs Road is packed with LGBTQ+ nightlife, restaurants, and shops. Major venues include Round-Up Saloon (a legendary country-western dance hall), JR's Bar & Grill (a Cedar Springs institution since 1980), Station 4 (home of the famous Rose Room drag shows), and Sue Ellen's (one of the longest-running lesbian bars in the country). The Resource Center serves as the neighborhood's community hub.

Beyond Oak Lawn

Oak Cliff, south of downtown, has emerged as a growing creative and queer-friendly neighborhood. Deep Ellum, Dallas's live music and arts district east of downtown, hosts alternative queer events and venues. Uptown and Downtown also have scattered LGBTQ+-welcoming spots, though Oak Lawn remains the undisputed center of gay Dallas.
