Part of the Gay Dallas Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Dallas, Texas
Multi-level Cedar Springs gay bar and grill since 1980.
JR's Bar & Grill has held down the center of the Cedar Springs strip since 1980, long enough that its name got borrowed by like-minded video bars in Houston, Washington, and Denver. The multi-level Caven Enterprises spot runs three full bars — two downstairs and one up on the covered balcony patio — and builds its nights around music videos on the screens, drag shows, and karaoke. It is the see-and-be-seen heart of Oak Lawn: less a destination dance club than the bar you drift in and out of all night, drink in hand, watching the strip go by from the balcony. That patio is prime real estate during the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade, when Cedar Springs fills below it. Easygoing, central, and almost always busy, JR's is the closest thing the gayborhood has to a town square.
