What is the Gay Neighborhood in Seattle?

Seattle's gayborhood is Capitol Hill, one of the most established and vibrant LGBTQ+ neighborhoods in the Pacific Northwest. The core queer district runs along the Pike-Pine Corridor — roughly Pike Street to Pine Street between Boren Avenue and 15th Avenue — with Broadway serving as the main commercial drag.

What to Find on Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill has the densest concentration of LGBTQ+-owned bars, clubs, and businesses in the region. Major nightlife spots include Queer/Bar (a queer-owned bar with drag, karaoke, and burlesque), Neighbours Nightclub (Seattle's oldest gay dance club, open since 1983), The Cuff Complex (a leather/bear bar with a large dance floor), and WILDROSE — one of the last remaining lesbian bars in the country, open since 1984.

Key Landmarks

Cal Anderson Park is the neighborhood's anchor green space, named after Washington's first openly gay state legislator. Gay City: Seattle's LGBTQ Center provides community resources, wellness programs, and a lending library. The Lambert House has served LGBTQ+ youth since 1991.

Beyond Capitol Hill

While Capitol Hill is the undisputed center of queer Seattle, the broader city is deeply welcoming. Pioneer Square was historically the city's first queer gathering area before the community shifted to Capitol Hill. Today, queer-friendly businesses and events are spread across neighborhoods including Fremont, Ballard, and the University District.
