Queer Women·Atlanta Gay Guide

Are There Lesbian Bars and Safe Spaces in Atlanta?

Atlanta is one of the few cities in the country with a dedicated lesbian bar that has not only survived but thrived — making it a standout destination for queer women.

My Sister's Room (MSR)

My Sister's Room (1104 Crescent Ave NE, Midtown) is one of fewer than approximately 40 lesbian bars remaining in the United States. Open since 1996 — nearly 30 years — MSR is an 8,000 square foot, two-story dance venue just blocks from Piedmont Park.

MSR features nightly programming including drag shows, burlesque, comedy, and karaoke. The signature weekly event is Femme Friday. Hours: Wednesday 8 PM-2 AM, Thursday 10 PM-2 AM, Friday and Saturday 8 PM-3 AM, Sunday 8 PM+.

Adjacent to MSR is Schaf Shop — an alcohol-free LGBTQ+ cafe, skate, and streetwear shop inside the MSR building, owned by a lesbian couple. It creates a daytime-to-nighttime queer women's ecosystem.

Other Sapphic Spaces & Events

While MSR is the only dedicated lesbian bar, Atlanta has a growing network of queer women's events and spaces:

  • The Social Side — an active social club for lesbian and bisexual women hosting outdoor adventures, retreats, game nights, and community gatherings
  • Femme Frequency — periodic R&B dance events for women who love women
  • Lore (466 Edgewood Ave SE) — while not women-specific, Lore intentionally centers queer, trans, women, and POC communities by design
  • Dyke March — Saturday of Atlanta Pride weekend (5:00 PM)
  • Southern Fried Queer Pride — hosts events including lesbian dance parties and community nights during its June festival

Atlanta is genuinely one of the best cities in the US for queer women, largely because MSR has survived and expanded while most lesbian bars nationwide have closed.
