Berlin, Germany
Volunteer-run gay men's social and play space in Schöneberg, free condoms and lube.
A volunteer-run gay men's club in Schöneberg, founded in 2000 by 14 men from Berlin's HIV/AIDS community projects. The name comes from the Greek word for insomnia. AJPNIA operates as a registered nonprofit — all staff are unpaid, and revenue from door fees and drinks goes back into the space. Three floors divide between a ground-level bar and lounge, an upstairs relaxation area, and a basement with private and communal play spaces. Shoes come off at the door; condoms, lube, and towels are free. Events run Wednesdays (after-work from 7 PM) and Saturdays (late night), with over 100 gatherings per year. The Saturday Nacht-Verkehr+ nights are specifically designed to be inclusive of men living with HIV.
