Mexico City, State of Mexico
Underground gay bathhouse in La Merced, hidden down a market alley.
Baños San Ciprian is an old-school gay men's steam bath in La Merced, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Mexico City and home to its sprawling historic market. Getting there is part of the experience — you cut through the busy market off Avenida Fray Servando Teresa de Mier to reach the entrance on a side street. Inside are large steam rooms, jacuzzis, massage, and a warren of smaller saunas upstairs that doubles as the cruising maze. Entry is around 85 pesos, 18+. The crowd is exclusively gay men and overwhelmingly local; little English is spoken, and the place trades on being raw, cheap, and genuinely of its neighborhood rather than polished for visitors. It runs every day from early morning to early evening and is busiest on weekend afternoons. One of the city's most storied vapor baths — and not the one to pick if you want comfort over character.
