Adult cinema and cruising space inside historic Pasaje Savoy
Cine Savoy is a historic adult cinema tucked at the back of Pasaje Savoy, an arcade off Calle 16 de Septiembre in the Centro Histórico near Eje Central. It opened in 1943 as a family movie house — an art deco hall from the city's golden age of cinema — and around 1970 became one of Mexico's first adult theaters, remembered as the venue where Deep Throat (Garganta Profunda) screened locally. It has shown adult films ever since. Two screening rooms split the building: the Royal Room upstairs shows gay films and functions in practice as a men's cruising space, while the Savoy Room downstairs runs heterosexual programming. Admission is a few dozen pesos, with cheaper midweek pricing and all-day passes. Local press treats it as a clásico of the city's underground culture — a surviving relic of golden-age cinema that long ago became something else entirely, and one of the oldest spaces of its kind still open downtown.
