Part of the Gay Phoenix Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Phoenix, Arizona
Neighborhood gay bar on 16th Street with karaoke and a smoking patio.
Bar 1 is a casual gay neighborhood bar on North 16th Street that's been part of Phoenix nightlife since 2008, in a building that housed the old Angelo's for more than 30 years before it. The room is easygoing and low-key, with pool tables, dartboards, pinball, screens for the game, and a pet-friendly back patio built for Phoenix evenings. The bar keeps a long liquor list (regulars point to the 40-plus vodkas) alongside cheap domestic beer. The crowd is mostly local and mostly men, the kind of place neighbors treat as a default rather than a destination. Rotating daily specials anchor the week, from beer busts to Long Island and two-for-one nights, with karaoke and game nights filling in. If you want the leather bars or the big dance floors, they're elsewhere; Bar 1 is the no-frills corner-bar end of the scene, and it's good at it.
