Phoenix, Arizona
Phoenix country-western gay bar with line dancing and drag shows.
Charlie's is Phoenix's country-western gay bar, on West Camelback Road just west of Seventh Avenue since 1984, when International Gay Rodeo Association co-founder John King opened it for gay urban cowboys and country fans. Two-stepping and line dancing still share the floor with drag shows and theme nights, and the place has grown over the decades into a big dance floor, an outdoor patio with two bars and bleacher seating, and a taco truck parked out front. The crowd is local, mixed, and broad: boots optional, and a wide cross-section of the community turns up. Line-dance lessons, drag, karaoke, bingo, and live DJs rotate through the calendar. As one of the oldest gay bars in the city and the only country-western one, it's both a piece of Phoenix LGBTQ+ history and still a genuinely fun weekend night. 21+.
