San Francisco, California
Vintage-industrial cocktail bar at the edge of the Castro, open since 2009.
Blackbird is a craft cocktail bar on Market Street at the edge of the Castro and Duboce Triangle, open since 2009. The room is vintage-industrial — tufted red-vinyl banquettes, Edison bulbs, a ceiling of salvaged wood — with a pool table and photo booth tucked in the back. Cocktails run $13–15 and lean creative (mezcal with habanero jam, rye with tobacco bitters), plus a solid zero-proof menu. The crowd skews mixed — gay locals, neighborhood regulars, pre-dinner couples — and the bar lands somewhere between a dive and a lounge without trying too hard at either. Happy hour runs weekdays with $10 Old Fashioneds and $1-off drafts. Same owners run Detour, the arcade bar nearby.
