About Chapstick

Chapstick is a queer sports bar in East Nashville from Christa Suppan and Jonda Valentine, the team behind the neighboring Lipstick Lounge on Woodland Street. The two bars share the same 1400 Woodland St. address, with Chapstick built as a roughly 1,500-square-foot addition to the 22-year-old lounge. The concept is summed up by the tagline "Sportsball for All": around 39 screens run games of every kind, with women's leagues given the same billing as men's. That focus makes it Nashville's first bar built to put women's sports front and center, and one of the first of its kind in the South. Suppan and Valentine had kicked the idea around back in Lipstick's early days, and Chapstick opened in September 2025, timed to the WNBA playoffs, to a packed house. The room reads playful rather than clubby, which is the point. Menu items lean into the joke, from the "LGBT" (a BLT with guac) to the "chicken tiddy" sandwich, alongside burgers, quesadillas, nachos, and brightly colored frozen vodka drinks. One local reviewer called it the definition of an unserious place to watch sports seriously. Where much of Nashville's gay scene concentrates around Church Street downtown, Chapstick anchors the queer nightlife pull toward East Nashville, next door to one of the country's few remaining lesbian-owned bars. For a traveler, that makes the two-in-one stop worth the trip across the river: an inclusive, women's-sports-forward crowd that skews neighborhood-regular over tourist, without the honky-tonk crush of Broadway. Beyond the screens, there's a covered back patio, a pool table, and darts, plus weekend brunch when the doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
