Savannah, Georgia
Award-winning French gastropub in a restored 1875 Whitaker St space
French bistro and gastropub on Whitaker Street downtown, opened in 2007 by Donald Lubowicki and Jeffrey Downey, two Detroit restaurant lifers who started with the pub and later took over the parcel next door to add a proper Parisian-style dining room. They ran it as a gay-owned table for nearly two decades before selling and retiring in 2025; the restaurant remains open under the same name and concept. The result is two distinct rooms under one roof — a dim, convivial gastropub and a quieter bistro — with unfussy French cooking and a full bar. It reads more neighborhood institution than special-occasion splurge, and that's the appeal: a candlelit date-night spot or a long, unhurried dinner with friends that doesn't trade on tourist-trap theatrics. A longtime fixture in Savannah's Historic District.
