Denver, Colorado
Queer-owned vegetarian cafe & bar
City O' City is a queer-, women-, and family-owned vegetarian restaurant, bar, and coffeehouse at 206 E 13th Ave in Capitol Hill. Owners Jennifer Byers, Hannah Kuehl, and Lauren Roberts have run it since 2015, along with sister restaurant Watercourse Foods, one of Denver's original vegetarian kitchens dating to 1998. The all-day menu is fully plant-based, moving from morning coffee and lattes through brunch, pizza, and shareable comfort food to late-night fries, cocktails, and happy-hour beer. It's the kind of place you can walk into for a single espresso or settle in for a full dinner, and it draws a mixed, heavily queer local crowd. The room reads eclectic and creative rather than polished, and the walls rotate monthly gallery shows from local artists, so the art is different depending on when you visit. For a traveler, this is a useful anchor on 13th Avenue: it works as an all-vegetarian option in a walkable stretch of Capitol Hill, and because it's open from early to late, it fits whether you're starting a day out or winding one down. The patio catches downtown views in warm weather. It reads as a genuine neighborhood fixture and one of the more reliably queer-comfortable rooms in the area, not a spot that turns on the welcome only for a themed night.
