Part of the Gay Palm Springs Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Palm Springs, California
Gay-owned barbershop on South Indian Canyon, open since 2007
Daddy's Barbershop is a gay-owned shop on South Indian Canyon Drive, the Palm Springs outpost of a brand founder Arlen Lasater first opened in San Francisco's Castro District in 2007. The Castro original ran for 14 years before closing in 2021; the Palm Springs location opened in 2018, and Daddy's has since expanded to Austin. Services run the full range, from buzz cuts and beard shaping to straight-blade shaves with hot steam towels and grey blending. The shop is as much a community hangout as a barbershop. Lasater has likened the atmosphere to "the leather version of Steel Magnolias," and the place reflects his roots in the scene; before barbering he spent years on the security board of San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair. Daddy's says it has donated more than $250,000 to LGBTQ+ and local nonprofits since its founding, which makes a haircut here feel a little more connected than most.
