Portland, Oregon
Historic Portland drag cabaret, staging shows since 1967.
Darcelle XV is a historic drag cabaret in Old Town Chinatown, staging Las Vegas–style revues since 1967 and, by most accounts, the longest-running drag show on the West Coast. It was founded by Walter Cole, who performed for decades as Darcelle and held the Guinness World Record as the world's oldest working drag queen until his death in 2023; the showplace has carried on under new ownership with its longtime cast and format intact. In 2020 the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places, a rare honor for a working LGBTQ+ venue. Expect sequins, comedy, and old-school revue numbers rather than a modern club night: Friday and Saturday evening shows, a Sunday Funday drag brunch, and the recurring "Champagne's Catch a Rising Star" showcase for newer performers. It's 21-and-over, and reservations are the norm for a seat. For any traveler with an interest in drag history, this is a genuine landmark, the kind of room where the art form's lineage is still on stage.
