Part of the Gay Portland (ME) Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Portland (ME), Maine
Women-owned queer nightlife staple in Portland's West End since 1982.
Flask Lounge is a women-owned nightlife staple on Spring Street in Portland's West End, in a space that has served the queer community under one name or another since 1982. It bills itself as 'Everybody's Bar' and works as a trans-safe, all-comers dance spot, recently voted the city's top LGBTQ+ bar two years running, with an intimate roughly-100 capacity that keeps it closer to a packed house party than a cavernous club. The calendar is the real draw and it changes nightly: queer dance parties like 'Hot Gay Girl House' with live painting and local DJs, bass-heavy EDM, open DJ sets, comedy, the occasional live band, and Thursday karaoke. For a traveler it's the dependable, mixed, dance-floor counterpoint to the more bar-like Blackstone's across town, the place to go when you actually want to move.
