Richmond, Virginia
Queer-owned plant-based café with craft cocktails and drag brunches
An LGBTQ+-owned vegetarian cafe, cocktail bar, and community space in Richmond's Manchester neighborhood. Owners Matt and Nafis Narsinghani built Gold Lion as a gathering place for queer and BIPOC communities, and it delivers — drag brunches, comedy showcases, open mics, and the Richmond LGBTQ Chamber's networking series all run here. The menu blends bold Indian flavors with American comfort food: butter chicken, family-recipe samosas, dosas, and BBQ sandwiches, all plant-based. Voted Best Vegetarian Restaurant in Richmond (Style Weekly 2025). Duke's Den, the onsite cocktail lounge, serves craft cocktails and local brews. The Duke's Tab program directs customer donations to free meals for people in need.
