Durham, North Carolina
Queer co-owned Southern comfort spot in a converted gas station with a rooftop bar.
GRUB is a Southern comfort restaurant built inside a converted 1960s PURE Oil gas station in Durham's Pauli Murray District. Co-owners Stacey Poston and Wendy Woods — a married couple who've lived in Durham for over 20 years — opened the spot in 2017 after a full renovation. The menu runs from sweet potato biscuits and grit bowls at breakfast (served until 3 PM) to house-smoked wings and the TREYmendous Burger at dinner, with a rooftop bar upstairs. Counter-service ordering, a dog-friendly patio, and Tuesday Taco Night keep things casual. GRUB is queer-owned and flies pride flags out front — listed on Discover Durham's directory of LGBTQ+ owned and operated businesses.
