Mexico City, State of Mexico
Kitschy gay cabaret on Calle Cuba, open since 1946, drag shows Thu–Sat
La Perla is a gay cabaret on República de Cuba in Mexico City's Centro Histórico, open since 1946. The room is small, gritty, and deliberately kitschy — fur-covered walls, surreal artwork, camp posters. Drag shows built around impersonations of Mexican pop divas (Paquita la del Barrio, Alejandra Guzmán, Laura León) run Thursday through Saturday nights starting at 11:30 PM. Cover is 120 MXN (~$6 USD), cash only. The bar sits on the western stretch of Calle Cuba, Mexico City's historic downtown gay bar corridor — a scene that predates the more tourist-facing Zona Rosa by decades. Arrive by 9-10 PM for a table; capacity is limited.
