Sacramento, California
Volunteer-run LGBTQ+ lending library and archive in Midtown.
Volunteer-run LGBTQ+ lending library and archive in Sacramento's Lavender Heights neighborhood, open since 1997. The collection spans more than 10,000 books, DVDs, zines, and periodicals — some dating back to the 1950s — organized under the International Gay and Lesbian Archives Classification System rather than Dewey Decimal. Beyond the stacks, LLACE (Lavender Library, Archives and Cultural Exchange) runs regular programming: a reading group on first and third Thursdays, a Banned Books Club monthly, board game afternoons, and support groups for bi/pan and ace/aro communities. Membership starts at $12.50 a year for borrowing. The storefront at 1414 21st Street sits in the heart of Sacramento's officially designated LGBTQ+ district.
