Part of the Gay Sacramento Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Sacramento, California
Lavender Heights' conversational gay bar with a big patio.
The Depot is a staple gay bar in the heart of Lavender Heights, near 20th and K, in a building that has housed a bar since 1938. TJ Bruce and his mother Marjorie reopened it as a gay venue in 1997, taking over the space formerly known as The Western, and it has been a Sacramento favorite ever since. It plays the conversational, everyday-regular role on a block otherwise known for high-energy dance clubs. Expect a dive in the best sense: affordable drinks, a spacious outdoor patio, regular karaoke, and a crowd of locals who would rather catch up than get lost in a crowd. It's the neighborhood living room of the district, the place to start or end a night in Sacramento's primary gay quarter rather than the place you go to dance.
