Orlando, Florida
Central Florida’s LGBTQ+ community center since 1978, in Mills 50.
The Center Orlando was founded in 1978, making it one of the oldest LGBTQ+ community centers in the southeastern United States. Located on North Mills Avenue in the Mills 50 district — a neighborhood National Geographic named Florida's most interesting — the center occupies a campus at 942 and 946 N. Mills Ave, with a satellite location in Kissimmee and a second downtown site. Services include free HIV and Hepatitis C testing seven days a week, mental health counseling, harm reduction with Narcan distribution, a food pantry, housing stability case management, legal and immigration assistance, and 25+ support and social groups. After the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting, President Obama called The Center "ground zero for community healing." The center later absorbed the Orlando United Assistance Center, now Orlando United Resiliency Services (OURS), which provides ongoing support for survivors of violent acts.
