Part of the Gay Manchester Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Manchester, England
Historic Canal Street showbar with drag cabaret, karaoke and DJs
The New Union sits on the corner of Princess Street and Canal Street and has been a pub since around 1860. The venue says it was one of the first openly gay venues in the city, and it still runs as a showbar today, with drag cabaret, karaoke, DJs and themed nights. Its own pitch is fun, friendly and entertaining, and that's about right: this is a sing-along, party-night kind of bar. The building also has hotel rooms upstairs, which makes it a handy base if you want to sleep a staircase away from the Village.
