Out of the Closet is an AIDS Healthcare Foundation thrift store near Lake Merritt, one of a chain the foundation has run since 1990. It sells secondhand clothing, accessories, and home goods, and the model is the point: 96 cents of every dollar spent goes to AHF's HIV/AIDS care and prevention work. Beyond the racks, the store doubles as a community health resource, with free HIV testing and STI screening on site. It's a practical, mission-driven stop rather than a nightlife one — a place to donate, dig for a deal, and get tested in the same visit.
