Fire Island, New York
Home of the Pines' legendary High Tea dance party.
The architectural centerpiece of Fire Island Pines, the Pavilion is a large open-air dance club rebuilt in 2013 after a fire destroyed the previous structure. It sits directly across from the ferry dock, the first landmark you see getting off the boat from Sayville. Inside is a roughly 2,400-square-foot dance floor under a retractable roof, stadium-style seating, and a wraparound terrace facing the harbor. It's the home of High Tea, the Pines' early-evening tea dance that picks up where Low Tea at the Blue Whale leaves off and runs daily through the season. Now operated by Tryst Hospitality as part of its Waterfront at the Pines complex, the Pavilion books resident DJs and touring circuit-party brands across a Memorial Day-to-Labor Day calendar. The tea dance tradition it carries dates back to 1966. For a traveler, it's the most central place to plug into the Pines on arrival, with the crowd, the music, and the harbor view all in one spot.
