Part of the Gay San Francisco Guide — bars, events & things to do.
San Francisco, California
SoMa's leather and cruise bar for the kink and fetish community.
Powerhouse is SoMa's best-known gay cruise and leather bar, on Folsom Street near Dore Alley at the heart of the city's leather scene. The current bar opened in 1997, but the address has been a men's bar far longer, part of the Folsom corridor that's held leather institutions since the 1970s. It serves the leather, kink, jeans, and fetish community without pretense. Expect themed nights, DJs, a cruisy main room, and a back patio that's central to the experience. It's one of the last leather bars standing on a stretch of Folsom that once held many, and it stays packed during Folsom Street Fair and Up Your Alley weekends. Come for the atmosphere and the crowd rather than cocktails or a show.
