Part of the Gay Provincetown Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Provincetown, Massachusetts
Gritty basement dance club at the Gifford House.
Club Purgatory is the basement nightclub of the Gifford House, a gay-owned Provincetown inn that has anchored Carver Street since 1858. Down a flight of stairs you hit raw brick walls, open ceilings, and a dance floor that's earned the room a reputation as one of America's earliest leather bars. It runs dark and underground by design, the gritty counterpoint to the town's breezier deck bars. In season the club opens late with nightly DJ sets spun until closing, drawing a cruisy, high-energy crowd looking for the after-hours end of Provincetown. Upstairs the same complex keeps a quieter Porch Bar if the basement runs too hot, so you can pace a night across both without leaving the building.
