Part of the Gay San Antonio Guide — bars, events & things to do.

San Antonio, Texas
Strip nightspot known for weekend go-go dancers and no cover.
Purgatory is a gay bar on North Main Avenue in San Antonio's Pride Cultural Heritage District, the city's recognized LGBTQ+ strip since the 1970s. Male go-go dancers on a raised platform are the signature weekend draw, alongside amateur strip-offs and underwear auctions, and there's no cover. A recurring Fetish Friday brings out a leather-and-gear crowd a couple of Fridays a month. The room leans toward bears and their admirers, and the feel is more easygoing neighborhood bar than high-energy club — especially in the afternoon, when doors open early and regulars know the bartenders by name. Things pick up after 11 on Friday and Saturday nights. Worth folding into a strip crawl if you want somewhere lower-key between the bigger clubs.
