San Francisco, California
Castro dance bar, back open after the 2019 fire
QBar is a dance bar on Castro Street in San Francisco's Castro, back open since late 2024 after a four-alarm fire in the apartments above closed it in 2019. Before the fire it was one of the neighborhood's best-known bars, playing pop and dance music to a younger crowd seven nights a week, and DJ and drag legend Juanita MORE! hosted her Wednesday party Booty Call there for years. Co-owner Cip Cipriano has described QBar as the first bar in the Castro to welcome queer people of color and trans people, as customers and as staff. It's a dance-floor stop on a night along Castro Street.
