The Birdcage Cabaret is the show room inside Key West's Aquaplex, the gay entertainment complex a few steps off Duval Street. It opened in March 2024 in the renovated former Sidebar space, rebuilt around a curtained stage and cabaret-table seating for Christopher Peterson, a Canadian performer with three decades of impersonation work who sings live, no lip-syncing, as Cher, Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand and Julie Andrews. The result is a staged, sit-down revue rather than a casual bar night, in an intimate room seating roughly 80 to 100. This is the theater half of Aquaplex; the Aqua bar and dance floors are right next door, so it slots naturally into a night out on the Duval end of town. Peterson anchors the marquee shows, with the Aquanettes, Aqua's rotating cast of drag queens, filling out the bill. If you want a proper drag production with a seat and a sightline rather than a crowded bar, this is the room for it. Showtimes shift by season, so check the current schedule before you build a night around it.
