Barcelona, Barcelona
Sunday gay circuit night with two floors, darkroom, and techno DJs
The Black Room is a Sunday-night gay party held inside Club City Hall on the Rambla de Catalunya, and one of the fixtures of Barcelona's weekly queer circuit. The club's multi-level layout gives the night two large dance floors and an outdoor terrace, and the music runs to hard techno and electro from rotating resident and guest DJs, with heavy lighting and laser production. A darkroom and cruising area off the floors set the tone: this is a cruisy, predominantly male, late-night crowd rather than a mixed social night. It's an end-of-weekend institution for locals who treat Sunday as the main event and for travelers after Barcelona's harder-edged side. The party starts late and runs into the early morning, so it's a destination in itself rather than a warm-up. Come for the techno and the uninhibited atmosphere; it isn't the place for a quiet drink. Worth knowing it's a recurring weekly party rather than a bar you can drop into any night.
