San Francisco, California
Legendary SoMa after-hours club, home of the Sunday T-Dance.
The EndUp is a SoMa dance club at Sixth and Harrison that has been running since 1973, when Al Hanken opened it as a disco-era companion to his nearby country-western bar the Roundup. It's best known for two things: a transparent, light-up dance floor, and marathon after-hours sessions that have made it the place where the night doesn't so much end as keep going. Its Sunday morning tea dance, produced in-house and running in one form or another since 1979, is one of the longest-standing recurring parties in San Francisco nightlife. Music runs to house, techno and disco, and the crowd is mixed, dance-driven and there for the long haul rather than the scene. In 2018 the club was folded into San Francisco's Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District, formal recognition of how long it's anchored queer SoMa. For a traveler it's the after-hours institution worth knowing about, the spot you head to when everywhere else is closing and you're not done dancing.
