Part of the Gay Louisville Guide — bars, events & things to do.
Louisville, Kentucky
Old Louisville LGBTQ+ tavern with a baby grand piano and drag shows.
Louisville's oldest continuously operating LGBTQ+ tavern, tucked into the same Old Louisville house on Garvin Place that used to hold Teddy Bears Bar & Grill (open since the late 1980s). Owner Denny Saunders, a long-running fixture in the city's queer community who makes a point of booking local LGBTQ+ talent, has kept the spirit going, and the room reads more like a friend's living room than a bar: a baby grand piano at its center, an ornate electric fireplace, big couches, and decor that's proudly kitschy and homey. It lands somewhere between a dive and a piano bar, with music doing the heavy lifting. Tuesdays bring a show-tunes sing-along around the grand, Saturday's Dollhouse Review is the recurring drag night, and live piano fills in the rest. No kitchen, but you're welcome to bring your own food, and the doors stay open late. For anyone who finds the bigger clubs on the other side of town a bit much, this is the warm, low-key alternative.
