The Lodge is the second-floor bar above O'Grady's on Church Street, and it's the steady home base for Toronto's bear and otter crowd. The room is built for hanging out rather than spectacle: a central bar, a pool table, low lighting, and wood-paneled lounge seating that fills up with a burlier, friendlier, slightly older crowd than the dance bars further down the strip. The kitchen is shared with O'Grady's downstairs, so the food is honest pub fare — wings, poutine, that sort of thing — and nobody's rushing you out. Programming leans social over showy: weekly RuPaul's Drag Race viewing parties, a recurring comedy series, and Friday bear nights that pull some of the best turnout in the Village. The Lodge also sponsors the Toronto Gay Hockey Association and stays plugged into the city's queer sports leagues, which tells you most of what you need to know about the place — community-first, low-pressure, easy to fall into conversation. If the bigger Church Street clubs feel like too much, this is the upstairs room where you actually talk to people.
