Part of the Gay Charlotte Guide — bars, events & things to do.

Charlotte, North Carolina
North Carolina's oldest continually branded gay club, founded 1968
The Scorpio is Charlotte's oldest LGBTQ nightclub, founded in 1968 and a fixture of the city's queer nightlife for more than half a century. After decades on Freedom Drive, the original space closed in 2023 to development, and the club reopened in August 2024 inside the former RSVP complex in South End at 225 Fairwood Avenue. The new home is a roughly 15,000-square-foot multi-level venue with three bars, a performance stage, and rooftop space, giving it room for the big drag productions and dance nights it has long been known for. For generations of Charlotte, Scorpio has been the place to see headlining drag queens and dance late, especially around Pride. The South End location sits near the light-rail line, making the reborn club easy to fold into a night out: a piece of continuous Carolina LGBTQ+ history that's still very much a working dance floor.
