Ottawa's queer theatre company producing bold LGBTQ+ stories at the Gladstone
TotoToo Theatre is Ottawa's queer community theatre company, producing plays with LGBTQ+ themes and content that other community and professional companies tend to skip. It launched in March 2007 with an inaugural production called William & James and has since built a steady season of queer and queer-adjacent work, from musicals like Fun Home and tick, tick... BOOM! to commissioned new plays. Productions stage at The Gladstone Theatre on Gladstone Avenue, an intimate house that suits the company's character-driven, story-first programming. As a registered not-for-profit run largely by and for the local community, TotoToo functions less as a tourist attraction than as a cultural anchor, the place to catch queer storytelling on an Ottawa stage and to see how the capital's LGBTQ+ artists are working.
