Queer- and trans-owned bookshop and sex shop on Barrington Street since 1998.
Venus Envy is a queer- and trans-owned independent bookstore and sex shop on Barrington Street in downtown Halifax, open since 1998. Current owner Marshall Haywood bought the shop in 2008; it relocated to this address in 2021 after a renoviction from its previous space (a GoFundMe raised $21,000 in under 12 hours for the move). The inventory covers LGBTQ+ literature, gender and sexuality titles, sex toys, pelvic health products, safer-sex supplies, fetish gear, and gender-affirming products. The shop runs a regular workshop series — recent topics include Fat Sex, Ethical Non-Monogamy 101, Kink and Chronic Pain, Strap-On Skills, and Trans Herbalism — on sliding-scale pricing. There's also an Ottawa sister location.
